Baseball fanatics rave about America’s favorite past time as much as they do their cellphones. It is no question that the smartphone market is a growing field in the technology arena. This year smartphones are expected to reach upwards of 1.9 billion units sold. With sales skyrocketing and fewer than 20 percent of all cellphones recycled every year, landfills are left stockpiled with the toxic waste contained in these electronic devices.
The Oakland Athletics green collar baseball recognizes this trend and has partnered with Sims Recycling Solutions for season two of their green cellphone recycling program. Every attendee who brings a cellphone in for recycling receives a two-for-one ticket voucher to an upcoming A’s home game.
This convenient cellphone recycling program is available at all Friday, Saturday and Sunday home games. Fans can drop off their cellphones in the collections bins located at the Guest Relations Booth behind section 120. “This program is a great way to benefit the environment and community through promotion of the recycling of these devices along with contributing to the A’s Community Fund,” stated Steve Skurnac, president of Sims Recycling Solutions.
In addition to the bonus A’s fans receive, the Bay Area community benefits from a donation Sims makes for every cellphone recycled at these games. The A’s community fund supports endeavors to improve educational programs for youth, aid the underprivileged, assist in crime and drug prevention, promote health awareness, and champion senior welfare.

As a sponsor last year, Sims Recycling Solutions was able to collect several cell phones through the program and ended up donating $5,000 to the A’s Community Fund. A formal check presentation was arranged during a home game to share the benefits of this recycling program with local fans.
Please join Sims Recycling Solutions and the Oakland Athletics in our quest to sweep this mobile phone recycling series. By working together we can hit results far out of the park.
