In celebration of America Recycles Day, Sims Recycling Solutions’ OEM Compliance team hosted four electronics collection events across Texas on Saturday, November 16. Free drop-off and recycling services for a wide variety of electronic items were available to all Texas residents. Events were held at the following locations:
- Houston, Texas
In partnership with the Energy Corridor District – The Energy Corridor District is a live/work district that is home to more than 300 companies and some of the world’s largest oil and energy producers. Sponsors of the one-day event in addition to the Energy Corridor included BP, ConocoPhillips, Phillips 66, ExxonMobil Chemical, and Citgo. This is the third year in a row that Sims has partnered with the Energy Corridor District to run this event.
- College Station, Texas
In partnership with Keep Brazos Beautiful – A Keep America Beautiful affiliate serving Brazos County.
- Midland, Texas
In partnership with Keep Midland Beautiful – A Keep America Beautiful affiliate serving Midland County. Sims has partnered with Keep Midland Beautiful annually since 2011 to run this event.
- Odessa, Texas
In partnership with the City of Odessa and Keep Odessa Beautiful – A local Keep America Beautiful chapter. This is the third year in a row Sims has participated in this event.
In total the events were a great success with more than 135,000 pounds of electronics collected from the four sites.
America Recycles Day is a great annual opportunity to share the message about the beneficial impacts recycling can have on the economy, environment, and local communities. Sims is proud to partner with local organizations in Texas to offer electronics collection opportunities that might otherwise not be available. There are currently two electronic takeback laws in Texas that require manufacturers of televisions, computers, laptops, monitors, and printers to collect these products at no cost to consumers (residents). Sims also provides year-round electronics collection opportunities to assist the manufacturers we represent in Texas that are impacted by the state electronic take-back laws.
