We were delighted to be invited to speak at the German Datacenter Association e.V.’s networking event in Frankfurt this month. Sims Lifecycle Services (SLS) team members Simon Groneburg and Willem Huiskes delivered one of 5 keynote speeches at the event pursuing the question of how we can create the conditions for all data centers to operate CO2 neutrally by 2030. Alongside Equinix, CBRE, Global Switch, Volt Europa, and Datacenter One, SLS presented our strategy for delivering industry-leading reuse and recycling services for co-located, hyperscale and edge data centers.
Ambitious goals require focus, direction and action. For SLS this starts with our company purpose – create a world without waste to preserve our planet. Our purpose is the basis used to develop our strategic growth and sustainability strategies. Our sustainability strategy is to reduce waste and keep resources in use for as long as possible. Our people live our purpose daily as it’s our goal to help build a stronger circular economy, which in turn, helps us to better serve our customers, communities and investors.
At the event, Simon & Willem shared SLS’ goals for recycling and reusing cloud material. Through refurbishment and redistribution, Sims Lifecycle Services is helping the data center industry to eliminate e-waste and advance towards zero waste targets, while minimizing costs. We help organizations close their material loops and build circular data center operating models.
At SLS, we believe that a fundamental building block for success is the ability to measure progress. We provide detailed Sustainability Reporting for our clients. Our sustainability reporting calculates carbon avoidance by reusing and by recycling cloud and workplace equipment. The reporting allows our clients to quantify the positive impact of their equipment disposal programs and optimize reuse. Providing the ability to improve upon existing carbon accounting this reporting capability will be an important contributor to creating conditions suitable for data center to hit CO2 neutral goals by 2030.
