Host In Ireland, a community of global companies with a collective interest in raising awareness of Ireland’s role in global digital infrastructure, has released their 2023 Ecosystem Report. This year’s report focuses on the Irish data center ecosystem in action, emphasizing that data center expansion and decarbonization be inextricably linked in order to achieve a sustainable future.
Multiple international hyperscalers have based their European headquarters in Dublin, driving not only digital expansion in EMEA, but globally. Ireland is hoping to leverage their international position to optimize energy use and expedite the transition to a sustainable society.
Sims Lifecycle Services (SLS) is a logical choice to be selected as a partner of Host in Ireland. SLS’ commitment to the circular economy continues to drive meaningful results as we focus on improving our resource recovery, closing the loop on material flows and increasing use of renewable energy sources.
All technology requires data center support, which in turn requires digital infrastructure support. Data centers have a unique opportunity to support their own infrastructure ecosystem by becoming prosumers of electricity.
The prosumer concept means there is both a give and take as companies, like data centers, interact with the grid, converting energy that is typically disposed of into useful commodities. One example of this concept is recycling the waste heat produced by data centers to provide heat to buildings outside the data centers, including private homes, which obviously offsets the need for fossil fuels.
Host in Ireland’s goal is to extend their commitment to data center circularity to their established network of partners, who are responsible for constructing and maintaining the entire data center infrastructure ecosystem which includes selecting, planning designing, construction, equipping, owning, operating and sustaining data centers globally from Ireland.
SLS is perfectly suited within this ecosystem as a world leader in sustainability. Our proven track record of working with hyperscale, co-located and edge data centers on a worldwide basis makes us an ideal fit in this global sustainability effort. Our Circular Center in Ireland, opened in 2021, provides the full range of data center services that global clients have come to expect from SLS.
Adds SLS Commercial Director Jelle Senters, “At SLS we are proud to deliver data services sustainably, in alignment with our purpose: create a world without waste to preserve our planet.”
